WE ARE LOOKING FOR A DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS TO WORK ONSITE IN COLLEGEVILLE PA. LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH A STRONG BACKGROUND IN LEADING AND HELPING GROW A TEAM. HIGHLY PREFER SOMEONE WITH CURRENT OR PREVIOUS EXPOSURE IN THE METALS INDUSTRIES.

THIS IS AN ONSITE ROLE

SALARY: $175K-$200K

TARGET BONUS OF 12.5%

Director of Operations

Location: Collegeville, PA – 100% Onsite
Reports To: President
Direct Reports: Engineering, Production Supervisors, Shipping/Receiving, Maintenance & Quality

Position Summary

The Director of Operations leads day-to-day manufacturing and engineering operations for a manufacturer of custom steel, aluminum, and wood products.

This position has responsibility for Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Shipping/Receiving, with ownership of safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost, capacity, and continuous improvement.

We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing leader with a strong background in engineer-to-order fabrication, ideally within architectural metals, stairs and railings, structural steel, millwork, or similar custom manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Shipping/Receiving operations.

  • Manage and develop supervisors, managers, and hourly production teams.

  • Own plant performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Productivity.

  • Lead OSHA compliance, safety training, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Manage production capacity, staffing, fabrication, welding, materials, and workflow to meet customer lead times.

  • Drive improvements in quality, defects, rework, customer complaints, and equipment reliability.

  • Establish and manage KPIs and hold departments accountable for results.

  • Lead Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen, value-stream mapping, and waste reduction.

  • Manage departmental budgets, labor, overtime, materials, maintenance costs, and operating expenses.

  • Identify, justify, and manage capital equipment and facility projects.

  • Partner with Purchasing to manage raw materials and inventory levels.

  • Work with Engineering on custom products, new designs, and engineer-to-order projects.

  • Partner with Sales and executive leadership on forecasts, customer commitments, priorities, and capacity planning.

  • Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor, identifying problems and driving solutions.

  • Use production and financial data to make operational decisions and support company growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Structural Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years of manufacturing/operations experience.

  • 5+ years leading plant operations or multiple manufacturing departments.

  • Experience leading functions such as Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and/or Supply Chain.

  • Strong experience in engineer-to-order or custom fabrication manufacturing.

  • Background in metal fabrication, welding, architectural metals, stairs/railings, structural steel, millwork, building products, or similar manufacturing strongly preferred.

  • Experience managing through supervisors and managers.

  • Experience owning a P&L or departmental operating budget.

  • Experience planning and managing CAPEX projects.

  • Hands-on Lean manufacturing experience, including 5S, Kaizen, and value-stream mapping.

  • Proven track record improving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost.

  • Experience establishing and managing manufacturing KPIs.

  • Strong understanding of production capacity, labor planning, inventory, and manufacturing costs.

  • ERP/MRP experience preferred.

  • Lean/Six Sigma and OSHA 30 certifications preferred.

  • Must be a hands-on leader comfortable spending significant time on the shop floor.
