THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL FORMULATION EXPERIENCE AND ALSO NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMEN EXPERIENCE. ALSO LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH SCIENTIFIC REPORT WRITING EXPERIENCE.

PAYS $130K-$145K SALARY + 10% TARGET BONUS
 

Scientist – Research & Development

Position Summary

The Scientist is responsible for independently formulating, testing, and developing products within a construction materials R&D environment. This position designs and conducts complex chemical studies, analyzes results, supports new product development and commercialization, and establishes quality control testing requirements.

The Scientist will also provide technical leadership by mentoring chemists and junior team members, supporting production and quality teams, and serving as a technical resource for complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and develop new products to meet technical and performance requirements.
  • Design and conduct experiments involving organic and/or inorganic compounds.
  • Perform analytical testing according to ANSI, ISO, ASTM, international standards, and accepted laboratory methods.
  • Evaluate new raw materials and work with suppliers on material selection.
  • Conduct competitive product testing and analysis.
  • Independently analyze and interpret technical data using DOE, statistical methods, and other analytical techniques.
  • Establish Quality Control parameters and testing procedures for new products.
  • Support product scale-up from laboratory formulation through full production commercialization.
  • Develop batching formulas and provide technical support to Production/Operations.
  • Investigate product inconsistencies, field complaints, and technical issues.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including required calibration and validation.
  • Document research, test results, project findings, and final technical reports.
  • Participate in field trials, cross-functional projects, and Stage Gate reviews.
  • Write R&D work instructions and test procedures.
  • Train and mentor chemists and junior laboratory personnel.
  • Follow all laboratory, company, state, and federal safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or relevant Engineering discipline required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of construction materials formulation experience.
  • Proven experience with new product development, R&D formulation, scientific report writing, and mentoring technical employees.
  • Experience working with Production/Operations, Quality Control, ISO processes, Analytical Chemistry, and Product Development.
  • Experience researching patents, preparing invention disclosures, and reviewing industry publications.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using DOE and statistical methods.
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects.
