Maintenance Mechanic – 3rd Shift
Pay Rate: $35.00–$40.00 per hour
Schedule: 3rd shift: 10 pm to 6:30 am Monday – Friday, Saturday’s and Sundays as needed. Will usually will work 9-12 hours overtime. $1/hr shift differential
Weekend Schedule: Rotating weekend PM shift
Overtime: Must be open and available for overtime as needed
Language: Bilingual English/Spanish required
Experience: Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment
Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanic for 3rd Shift is responsible for the care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all company property and production assets in a safe, sanitary, and efficient condition. The Maintenance Mechanic provides technical support to Production, Sanitation, Operations, and Quality Control to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, hands-on experience with PLC automation and controls, and a minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for staying current on new products, equipment, technology, and maintenance techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- Strong knowledge of PLC automation, controls, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical procedures, service manuals, and work orders.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with production, processing, packaging, and utility equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Strong understanding of GMP, food safety, and SQF requirements.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other required safety practices.
- Must be available to work the scheduled 10 PM–6:30 AM shift and a rotating weekend PM shift.
- Must be open and available for overtime when required.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing planned and unplanned maintenance requirements in production, packaging, processing equipment, and utility systems, including heat, steam, cooling, electrical power, gas, and compressed air.
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment, automation systems, sensors, controls, and related electrical components.
- Provide support to the Sanitation Department when equipment must be disassembled or reassembled during end-of-day sanitation activities.
- Perform requested equipment setups for the following production day.
- Conduct repairs, adjustments, and equipment modifications requested by Operations, Sanitation, and/or QC after production.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance after the production shift.
- Inspect equipment condition after production and identify potential problems before the next production run.
- Ensure equipment scheduled for the following production day is operating safely and efficiently.
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electrical meters, and material-handling equipment.
- Communicate effectively with Production, Sanitation, Quality, Operations, management, and other employees regarding equipment problems or conditions that may affect production.
- Complete all required paperwork clearly, legibly, and accurately in accordance with company SOPs.
- Assist with maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low inventory levels to the Supervisor.
- Apply a continuous-improvement mindset to identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and processes.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
- Follow all required safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, confined-space safety, chemical handling, fall protection/restraint, and other applicable requirements.
- Comply with food safety and SQF requirements related to the designated work area.
- Immediately report any food safety or food quality concerns to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
