CNC Set-up Lathe Machinist – start time – 6 am
This is a union facility so the wage progression gives an employee a $.50 increase every 6 mos and a 2% annual increase.
Summary
Responsible for performing duties such as setting up and operating all CNC Lathes and other machine operations such as turning, facing, boring, sawing, drilling, reaming, tapping, slotting, grooving, threading, slotting, grinding and deburring.
Position Duties
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Will gather all the tools needed to Set Up and operate product determined by Set Up or process sheet. If no Set Up or Process Sheet is available, must use practical and sound judgement when suggesting or using alternate items.
- Set up and run one or more CNC Lathes to machine castings, forgings, bar stock, composites, etc. Make any necessary adjustments to the machines and their controls as required. Load the machine with CNC programs (DNC Direct Numerical Control, shop floor programs), make machine adjustments (offsets), run program, etc. in able to make products to their design or manufacturing criteria. Supports with developing, editing, and validating of Set Up sheet, CNC Programs, and/or other applicable process documents.
- Keeps daily production performance records and pertinent documentation required by the drawing, specification, production router, inspection or internal processes and procedures.
- Uses sound judgement to suggest practical inspection methods taking cost, efficiency, and complexity into consideration. In support of process improvements, offers suggestions to sequence of operations and/or other aspects of machining related functions when noticed. Will assist in the training of other employees in various facets of NC machine operations when requested by Managers or Supervisors.
- Knowledge with all aspects of setting up CNC Lathe machines. Including but not limited to Indicating various fixtures and tools used on CNC Lathe machines. Knowledge of basic functions of Fanuc and Haas controls required, in-depth knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge with using a multitude of inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, comparators or any acceptable inspection tool.
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot problems within the manufacturing process or with basic machinery functions. Ability and willingness to learn different controls used within the CNC department.
- Performs all tasks in a timely, safe and accurate manner to avoid delays in operations. Adopt 6S mentality to ensure an organized and clean workstation and CNC department.
- Immediately reports to management when not making job standards.
- Positive attitude and approach when facing obstacles as they occur within the daily activities. Maintain an open mind to new ideas or processes and teamwork is a must.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. 4-6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
Language skills – ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
Mathematical skills – ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as, statistical inference and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts of intermediate math to practical situations.
Reasoning ability – Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or lean into machine.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
