Product Development Specialist I
Job Summary:
Will primarily work out of Long Beach site 80% of the time but will come to Santa Fe Springs site at times for meetings/observations.
This position assists in the innovation of formulations for new company and customer products. This role involves supporting the innovative formulation for commercialization of new products, quality improvement of existing product, process improvements, and finished goods while maintaining compliance to regulatory and 3rd party certified bodies regulations and requirements.
Responsibilities:
The Product Development Specialist is responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Assist in the creation and development of innovative products, emphasis on extruded nutritional bars, that meet the requirements of the company, customers and regulatory bodies and 3rd party certifiers.
- Prepare documentation for weighing and mixing of bench top studies.
- Track and document all formula changes chronologies.
- Assist in the sensory and organoleptic evaluation of R&D lab bench studies and if required daily batch evaluation.
- Collaborate with R&D Team, Sales and cross-functional (XF) departments to ensure product development and technical transfers are completed within the project timelines.
- Oversees the transfer of new innovative products in production. Provides feedback to R&D Team and applicable XF departments.
- Support collaborative environment and teamwork in meeting organizational goals.
- Formulates and works with Genesis program to create Nutrition Facts panels and Supplement Facts panels.
- Inventory and organization of lab samples and supplies.
- Provides insight and advice on ingredients that would contribute flavor and nutrition to various dietary supplement products.
- Conducts shelf-life studies.

Qualifications: (Competencies, Minimum Education Requirements, Training or Experience)
- BS Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related fields preferred.
- 3+ years related work experience, extruded nutritional bar experience preferred.
- Computer literacy required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word.
- Excellent verbal, communication, and written skills, Bilingual in Spanish a plus
