This Director will oversee QA and QC at both locations (Long Beach and Santa Fe Springs). There is currently a Sr. Quality Assurance Manager (Santa Fe Springs)  and one Quality Control Manager (Long Beach). The position is standard in its nature, nothing out of the ordinary that needs to be pointed out. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) ability is preferred but not necessary. 

Job Summary:  
The Quality Director will oversee the Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory and Compliance activities to ensure operations are conducted in compliance with applicable regulations and standard operating procedures to ensure product quality is consistent with the specifications and facilitate batch disposition, and regulatory requirements for commercial purposes. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and drive process improvements to ensure the effectiveness of the Company’s Quality Management System.
  • Coordination, development, and oversight of Company’s Quality Management System with cGMP compliance activities, regulatory label compliance, specification approvals, testing activities, change control to ensure compliance with State, Federal, SQF, 3rd party certifiers and customers’ requirements.
  • Manages the final release activities for raw materials, components and finished product release activities.
  • Oversee Change Controls, Deviations, Non-conformances, and CAPAs for Quality.
  • Manage product quality issues, including escalation to Material Review Board (MRB), and Quality Management Reviews. Create, implement, and manage the MRB.
  • Oversee inspections and audits from State, Federal, 3rd party certifiers, and customer inspections as well as SQF assessments and reassessments. Ensure Mock recalls are performed.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to ensure effective regulatory and customer feedback responses/corrective actions are generated in a timely manner.
  • Oversees the processes for QA on the Floor support, visual inspection, and batch review and disposition.
  • Directs the raw material testing, batch record reviews and lot disposition activities to ensure the release of lots within prescribed timelines and in compliance with Company’s SOPs and regulations.
  • Manages creation, changes, and issuance of QCR's, Batch Cards, and packaging records to production.
  • Manage and train Company on Change Control processes
  • Support collaborative environment and teamwork in meeting organizational goals.  
  • Supervise staffing and overseeing training, professional development of employees and conducting performance reviews.  
  • Assist with Human Resources functions on interviewing potential employees, drafting and conducting performance reviews, addressing employee relation matters, and overall company communication.

Travel: 
May be asked to attend work-related shows, customer dinners or related events.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing floor, which may include walking, standing, and occasionally climbing stairs or ladders. 
  • Manual Dexterity: Capability to handle small tools and equipment, perform inspections, and manage quality control instruments. 
  • Visual Acuity: Good vision for inspecting products, reading detailed reports, and working with computer systems. 
  • Hearing: Ability to hear alarms, machinery sounds, and communicate effectively in a noisy environment. 
  • Lifting: Occasionally lifting and carrying items, typically up to 25 pounds. 
  • Stamina: Endurance to work long hours, especially during audits or when addressing quality issues. 

Qualifications: (Competencies, Minimum Education Requirements, Training or Experience)

  • BS Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related fields (master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in quality within a manufacturing environment and minimum 8 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing quality management systems and driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., SQF, NSF)
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Computer literacy required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal, communication, and written skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Result-oriented.
  • Self-motivated and organized.
