LARGE FOOD MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN FORT DODGE, IA IS LOOKING FOR AN AMMONIA REFRIGERATION TECH. LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH AMMONIA REFRIGERATION, CHILLERS, ETC.

HOURLY RATE IS $29-$33 hourly

THIS ROLE IS 6AM-630PM ON A 223 SCHEDULE 

JOB SUMMARY  Ammonia Refrigeration Technician

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, responsible for all aspects of the refrigeration units including ammonia system to ensure efficient operations in the processing of raw materials for the pet food, pharmaceutical and feed industries by performing the following tasks:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES    

•    Operate and maintain all engine room and other equipment including boilers, pumps, chiller, cooling tower, compressors, condensers, and electrical systems to ensure that there are no interruptions to production and that all equipment is safe to operate.  Recommends significant repairs to Plant Manager and obtains bids from vendors.
•    Responsible for maintaining, repairing, and examining refrigeration systems, working specifically with ammonia refrigeration.  Maintains any updates for equipment information and repair files are completed in full
•    Develops, updates, and implements Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs and documents the completion of PM’s
•    Responsible for ensuring that an inventory is kept of important spare parts and tools needed to avoid downtime in production
•    Develop a Proposal for a Sustainability Policy for Company.  After implementation, responsible for maintaining updates.
•    Assist Head of Maintenance in developing plans for efficient plant operation and monitoring and enforcing safety in plant.  Arrange for safety repairs and updates as needed
•    Responsible for the facility’s PSM Program & Refrigeration Systems in consultation with external refrigeration company.  Follow procedures and document as required. Notifies Plant Manager or Head of Maintenance if major repairs or replacements are needed.
•    Demonstrate leadership in the implementation and support of a safety focused culture
•    Lead in the training and development of employees by managing performance and creating an environment in which they have the opportunity to succeed.
•    In consultation with Plant or head of Maintenance, responsible for ensuring plant operates in compliance with all laws and regulations
•    Responsible for obtaining and retaining MSDS Sheets as needed
•    Adhere to all safety guidelines and wearing of all required safety gear (PPE)
•    Adhere, support, and enforce all company policies and procedures
•    Complies with attendance guidelines of the company.
•    Comply with all food safety/quality related programs and procedures accordingly to support GFSI and regulatory standards.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES    •    Assist in developing, updating, and implementing Vendor Policies
•    Maintains ongoing correspondence and communication with other departments (emails, reports, etc.)
•    Participate in job and safety training offered and required by the Company
•    Maintain good housekeeping of work areas
•    Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
SKILLS ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES    •    Microsoft Office 
•    Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings
•    Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
•    Service oriented
•    Ability to communicate with people across all organizational levels
•    Ability to work as a part of a team and treat coworkers with respect
INDUSTRY TECHNICAL AND WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE    •    Experience in the following areas:
o    Leadership
o    Process improvement
o    Refrigeration and ammonia technical knowledge
o    Meat processing industry is desired but not required

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION  
•    Valid driver’s license
•    Must have all required current licenses and certifications from federal and state agencies to operate and maintain refrigeration, ammonia, and HVAC

ACADEMIC    
•    H.S. education or GED along with at least (2) years experience or equivalent education and/or experience

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS    C=Constantly (5-8 hrs./shift)  F=Frequently (2-5 hrs./shift)
O=Occasionally (Up to 2 hrs./shift)  R=Rarely (Does not exist as a regular part of job.

OTHER DEMANDS    
•    Must be able to work around and with raw beef, chicken, fish, lamb, or other similar raw materials and odors.
•    Must have the ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment when inside the plant facilities.  This could include items such as steel toe footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, and rain gear.
•    Must respond to breakdowns meaning may need to be on call to conduct emergency repairs.
•    Ability to work flexible hours including some weekend work
•    Ability to travel occasionally and on routine part runs as needed
