FSQA Director for established and growing bakery operation.  Oversees 2 plants.

Position Title: Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance
Summary: The Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food safety and quality assurance within our USDA and FDA regulated facility. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations, quality control processes, and effective management of personnel and systems on the production floor. The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet regulatory requirements, maintain high quality standards, and uphold consumer trust.
Key Responsibilities:
1.    Regulatory Compliance:
•    Ensure compliance with all USDA and FDA regulations pertaining to food safety and quality assurance.
•    Stay updated on changes to regulations and implement necessary adjustments to procedures and protocols.
•    Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
2.    Quality Control:
•    Develop and implement robust quality control processes to monitor product quality throughout the production process.
•    Establish and maintain quality standards for raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
•    Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to quality standards.
3.    Quality Management Systems (QMS):
•    Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive Quality Management Systems (QMS) to support efficient operations and continuous improvement.
•    Monitor the effectiveness of QMS processes and make recommendations for enhancements as needed.
•    Lead efforts to obtain and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, HACCP).
4.    Personnel Management:
•    Supervise and provide leadership to the quality control team, including technicians and inspectors.
•    Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
•    Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement among staff.
5.    Process Optimization:
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction while maintaining food safety and quality standards.
•    Implement best practices and innovative technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in food safety and quality assurance.
6.    Crisis Management:
•    Develop and implement crisis management protocols to respond effectively to food safety incidents or quality issues.
•    Lead investigations into product quality complaints, non-conformances, and recalls, and implement corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
7.    Documentation and Reporting:
•    Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to food safety and quality assurance activities.
•    Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), compliance metrics, and improvement initiatives for senior management.
Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
•    Minimum of 8 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance, with demonstrated expertise in USDA and FDA regulations.
•    Proven track record of successfully leading food safety and quality assurance programs in a manufacturing environment.
•    Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and develop team members.
•    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with regulatory agencies, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
•    Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
•    Certification in Food Safety (e.g., SQF, PCQI) preferred.
