The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the manufacture of safe and wholesome food by maintaining a clean working environment.  Responsible for ensuring that food products meet standards set by both the company and regulatory authorities. Develop and review quality and safety policies and manage audits by third-party inspectors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Establish quality and reliability standards by studying product and consumer requirements with other members of management and with production operators.
  • nt

  • Establish in-process product inspection standards by studying manufacturing methods, devising testing methods and procedures.
  • nt

  • Establish rework standards by devising inspection and physical testing methods and procedures.
  • nt

  • Establish product quality documentation system by writing and updating assurance procedures.
  • nt

  • Maintain product quality and safety by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • nt

  • Establish key performance indicators and reporting system and management of regulatory, 3rd party or customer audits related to food safety and quality.
  • nt

  • Maintain quality assurance staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees and planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
  • nt

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
  • nt

  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing the quality assurance budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions.
  • nt

  • Implementation of food safety and quality programs at ground level across the organization and ensure that they remain current and suitable.
  • nt

  • Facilitate review, verification and validation of all preventive and process controls and drive continuous improvement.
  • nt

  • Work closely with other departments to establish procedures and instructions to support the food safety and quality programs.
  • nt

  • Oversee all department related suppliers and resources in an efficient manner.
  • nt

  • Develop and implement COMPANY internal and GMP audits, ensuring the COMPANY standards are achieved and non-compliances are addressed in a timely manner.
  • nt

  • Receive customer complaints and drive the RCA and CAPA procedures in a timely manner.
  • nt

  • Monitor and maintain technical and regulatory requirements related to FDA and Title 21.
  • nt

  • Meet with other supervisors and inspect facilities for compliance with standards, determining methods to resolve any issues that arise.
  • nt

  • Review customer feedback and respond to any complaints.
  • nt

  • Prepare reports on food quality status to relay to owners and upper-level management and retain records of all tests and inspections that have been conducted.
  • nt

  • Generate & finalize all nutritional and labeling information.
  • nt

  • Interact with production, purchasing, warehouse and maintenance to bring new concepts from idea to finished goods.
  • nt

  • Responsible for maintaining SQF systems for annual re-certification as SQF practitioner.
  • nt

  • Function as the Preventative Controls Qualified Individual in maintaining and improving the Food Safety Plan & programs.
  • nt

  • Uphold consumer and employee safety, while maintaining brand integrity.
  • nt

  • Provide direction, oversight, support and coordination of quality assurance and technical activities.

Education:

    nt

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field such as biology, chemistry, microbiology, or food technology.
  • nt

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • n

Certification:

    nt

  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • nt

  • Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI)
  • nt

  • Preventive controls qualified individual (PCQI).

Work Experience:

nn

    nt

  • Previous experience working in the food industry, with a particular emphasis on supervisory experience.
  • nt

  • Risk Assessment & Process Change Control
  • nt

  • SQF Practitioner
  • nt

  • Knowledge of laboratory instrument maintenance and calibration.
  • nt

  • Global food safety experience.
  • nt

  • Minimum of 5 years in a Supervisory role.

  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience of developing, implementing, and managing FSQ testing programs including ATP, allergen, pathogen environmental monitoring, organoleptic evaluation, laboratory chemistry, physical, microbiological testing for ingredients and finished products.

  • Strong working knowledge of developing / implementing / managing supplier and incoming material FSQ management programs.
  • nt

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • nt

  • Demonstrated proficient technical / SOP writing skills.

  • Proficient user of PC including MS Office Suite programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and other computer-based applications.
