Job Purpose:
This position oversees the regulatory compliance processes and supports teams both internally within EFC and externally with our clients to support the overall business strategy of the organization. Ensures all established federal, state, and local government regulations are satisfied, maintains finished product specifications, and ensures timely registration of raw materials and finished products with relevant 3rd party certifying bodies (Organic/Kosher etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Ensure all ingredients, formulas and packaging materials are in full compliance with current laws and regulations.
Produce, edit, and oversee internal product specifications and nutritional’s. 
Create nutritional data and manage Genesis program
Generate finished product labels and ensure they meet labeling requirements 
Assess work orders, specifications, product labels prior to production and on an ongoing basis as needed to ensure information is accurate and communicated to customers 
Manage and provide required documentation support for internal and external customers. Supporting documentation includes, but is not limited to, Specifications, Ingredient Statements, Allergen Statements, Genetically Modified Statements, Kosher, Halal, SDS, Range Formulas, Nutrition Information, Country of Origin information, customer questionnaires.
Coordinate across functions to gather technical information needed to fulfill customer documentation requests related to Regulatory compliance.
Assessment of SQF systems to verify compliance by conducting internal auditing process based on SQF audit program. Results of review to be communicated to management for corrections. 
Manage supplier approval program for all contract manufactures, manage the onboarding of new suppliers
maintain approved supplier documentation based on regulatory compliance and customer requests. Obtain updates from suppliers for expired documentation such as Letters of Guarantees, Kosher, and Organic certifications. 
Prepare and submit documentation to regulatory agencies and other external bodies required to respond to regulatory inquiries.
Manage and maintain the specification management software system. 
Maintain current registration of products with 3rd party certifying bodies (Organic, Kosher, etc.).
Provide regulatory counsel for product development team.
Monitor regulatory environment for changes to food regulations.
Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws regarding nutrition and food labeling, including FDA, CFIA FTC. 
Assist with shelf-life studies.
Assist with in-house taste panels.
Provide support for supplier approval process.    
Maintain compliance with GFSI and 3rd party audits. 
Support in GFSI and 3rd party audit preparations as directed by SQF Practitioner or Quality Manager.
Coordinate with supplier and customers to clarify and resolve regulatory issues.
Generate new and update product specifications, verify ingredient statements and nutritional data complies with FDA regulations. 
As the Document Control Coordinator, ensure that all updates are properly documented, verified, communicated, and logged both within the network and physically at the production facility.
Participate in mock recalls to ensure traceability of all ingredients and finished product is maintained
Investigate customer complaints and write corrective action reports for customers as needed
Communicate observed non-compliances and suggest improvements with management and cross functional departments

Education:
High School Diploma required.
Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university in Food Science or related required. 

Certification:
HACCP, SQF, certification desirable

Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in product compliance in the food industry.
Working knowledge on FDA Title 21
2+ years’ experience related to food manufacturing as it pertains to Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) schemes (SQF or BRC preferred)
Basic understanding of labelling, and packaging material compliance.
Familiar with State and Federal Food processing Regulations including HACCP, and cGMP’s.
Working knowledge of food safety auditing.
Additional knowledge and experience in QA and QC may be considered as a plus 
Versed in FDA GMO, and Organic labeling procedures.

Physical Requirements:
Able to work in extreme temperatures, both heat and cold. 
Work may require moderate lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. 
Able to sit for prolonged periods and efficiently operate computer, calculator, copier, and other business office equipment.
Mental alertness to ensure accurate and thorough completion of work activities.

Other Requirements
Must be able to successfully pass Drug and Alcohol pre-employment and ongoing screening. 
Bilingual (Spanish) desired.  
Valid driver’s license required.
