PRODUCTION PLANNER OPENING IN PORTLAND OREGON DIRECT HIRE HIGH SPEED FOOD MANUFACTURING PLANT.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Production Planner

In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of product supply and inventory at the plant/3PL. You will schedule production, manages inventory, and plans short/long-term capacity in order to achieve targeted fill rates with minimal obsolescence. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Production Orders:

  • Execute production planning for broader Product Supply team, supporting process adherence, tight execution, long-term plan development and clear/timely communication
  • Develop and execute weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual (as directed) predictive schedules to determine build, purchase and resupply requirements, using SAP planning tools
  • Collaborate with demand planning, customer service, logistics, procurement, and production facility planners to develop/adjust required inputs for detailed production planning
  • Understand future capacity/supply constraints (manufacturing, raw materials, packaging) affecting production by engaging stakeholders throughout the planning process and lead the development of recovery plans
  • Support cost reduction through effective and efficient capacity utilization
  • Gain consensus from upstream and downstream functions on pipeline fills, customer events, or seasonal products to ensure production plans are executable and aligned with demand
  • Achieve weekly key performance indicators 

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain inventory at target levels for all assigned SKUs, through appropriate production planning and inventory balancing across the network
  • Create deployment orders to maintain appropriate inventory levels at production facilities, outside warehouses and distribution centers
  • Monitor existing/near-in FG shortages, identify root causes, develop/implement corrective actions and communicate such to management
  • Monitor “aged” inventories – perform root cause analysis of obsolescence and implementation of corrective/preventative action

System Settings:

  • Confirm setup and maintenance of all system settings required for accurate, effective and efficient production planning
  • Analyze and resolve system exception messages, identifying root cause and implementing corrective action
  • Ensure data integrity of MRP and Heuristics planning attributes to ensure that the system is providing valid planning suggestions to maintain inventory targets and service level targets
  • Troubleshoot SAP/SNP problems by working with Master Data, SAP/SNP teams, and SMEs 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Contribute to training guides, process changes and SOP’s as requested
  • Support and personally implement team-wide improvements to metrics, methods and reports for monitoring performance
  • Accept/seek out guidance and direction from manager and other training resources
  • Work with QA, R&I and production facility to improve yields 

Communication:

  • Maintain strong communication internally and externally, by anticipating inquiries and follow-up activities; staying on top of outstanding questions, project timelines and cross-functional activity and developing effective relationships with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Develop manager-level-ready communication regarding production/inventory/capacity outlook, projected shortages and recovery dates/plans as required
  • Proactively identify product supply issues, communicate to other departments and create/share/implement solutions to achieve earliest back in stock date
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to ensure new products meet performance criteria, including minimum production levels
  • Embrace a customer-service mindset for interactions with all internal/external contacts
  • Interact with plant management to maintain accuracy of schedule dates and available capacity and communicate any production delays upstream and downstream as needed

Project Work:

  • Contribute to project teams as required to ensure successful product/process/resource transitions and resolution of issues
  • Represent Product Supply in project teams (with manager support) to deliver new items, discontinue items and execute item changes, including understanding and ensuring SAP master data settings are correct and developing appropriate ramp-up/discontinuation plans
  • Communicate weekly status of projects to management
  • Participate on ad hoc problem-resolution teams to address service, process or waste issues, for owned products/locations
  • Support other project work as assigned 

ABOUT YOU: 

  • You have a Bachelors degree in business, supply chain, or related field, required.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of supply chain experience in customer service, distribution, or inventory/production planning, required.  Prior experience in food / beverage or consumer packaged goods (CPG) is preferred.
  • You have 3 to 5 years of experience with ERP systems (SAP, JD Edwards, etc).  Experience with SAP MM, PP and SNP data and processes, or similar system, is preferred.
  • and have 1 to 2 years of experience supporting problem solving and change implementation in a cross-functional/matrix organization
  • You have knowledge of production scheduling, materials scheduling management, inventory and finished goods management
  • You are able to anticipate problems and initiate corrective measures and work well under pressure.
  • You are able to work independently with flexibility and make informed, data-driven decisions
  • You are customer service focused and have excellent communication skills, are detail oriented and able to work well with others.
