The ideal candidate is someone who has previously worked at an OEM fabricating custom equipment from scratch. A high level of experience with machine setup and machining skills would be preferred. This candidate would be more a build from scratch and identify issues early type of guy rather than a "repair and keep something running" guy.
We also need a Lead Mechanical Tech, someone who can organize the shop, we're doing 10 machines this year and there are plans to make 20 machines next year, a plus if you have some lathe and mill experience and can build machines from scratch, we want to manufacture our own parts and bring everything inhouse.
Location: Richmond, VA
Hours: 8 am – 4 pm (or 9 am – 5 pm); some flexibility with schedule.
Rate: $25/hr – $40/hr
The role has a 12% prorated bonus target, which increases to 14% in the second year of eligibility.

Job Description:
The Mechanical Technician will perform the assembly, integration and testing of machinery and manufacturing equipment. The candidate will work under the supervision of a Lead Technician or Engineer to interpret technical drawings and to coordinate the assembly and fabrication of critical parts and assemblies ranging in complexity. The technician will strive to maintain a clean and organized functional work environment and will collaborate with its peers to operate as a high-performing team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Read and interpret technical and shop drawings of varying complexity, including safety rules, equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, etc.
- Verify component dimensions, tolerancing, general fitment and alignment
- Proficient in the use and understanding of general machine shop measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers etc.
- Perform general machining tasks such as cutting, grinding, milling, drilling, etc.
- Operate machine tools such as lathe, mill, grinder, and fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools
- Visually inspect and tests machinery and equipment
- Organize, store, and retrieve parts and components according to a plan or system
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area including tooling and hardware
- Install, repair and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Clean and lubricate parts per vendor's recommendation
- Operate equipment to produce commercial samples
- Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled
- Other duties as necessitated by the business
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Physically able to wear required appropriate personal protective equipment including hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toe shoes
- Pass company fork truck testing and certification
Experience:
- 2+ years working in mechanical technician and/or fabrication in a related industry
- Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical systems required
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical designs, repairs, installation, and maintenance
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED certificate
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 40 pounds unassisted
- Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments
- Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
- Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
