NOTE – The hiring manager wants food processing experience as a minimum and strongly prefers meat experience – they use Thurn and Weber slicers so if a candidate has some familiarity with slicers this will be a big plus. They’ll relocate someone to St. Joseph if they have to but as a minimum, candidates MUST have strong food industry experience.
Food processing company wants a Supervisor who is familiar with setting up continuous improvement initiatives, and knows 5S, and Lean manufacturing, someone who can help them build and implement processes and build teams. Need want someone with strong interpersonal skills who can develop good teams, will be over 13-22 people, straight salary and you should expect to work at least 2 Saturdays a month, should expect to work 50-55 hours a week. At least two years experience as a Production Supervisor.
Bilingual preferred. Afternoon shift (2:30 pm – midnight) 60k – 70k. Prefer some food experience.
SUMMARY: The Department Supervisor is responsible for departmental operations, production, safety and policy enforcement for the assigned department. The Supervisor will maintain department work schedules ensures proper documentation. Other responsibilities include ensuring daily reports are being completed accurately and timely, ensure Department weekly time sheets are properly filled out and approved. Work closely and assist in coordination of the activities of the maintenance. Plan and review departmental project work with the Production Manager. Administer HACCP and GMP policies. Schedule daily production schedules in CAT2 and M3 based on customer orders. Conduct daily meetings with department direct reports on KPI's and Safety. Maintain high standards of excellence, attention to detail and the willingness/flexibility to work through peak work cycles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
* Overseeing day to day department operations, identifying problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
* Ensure department personnel follow the established procedures for start up, operation, and shutdown of the department.
* Follow production reports and troubleshoot any issues during operation. Offers potential solutions and reports any issues daily to Production Manager.
* Ensure prescribed checks and monitoring of all operating equipment are carried out as required.
* Establishes and ensures that safety policies and procedures are always followed.
* Coordinate all employee activities and training for department, with the help of the training department.
* Maintain proper records and logs of activities and operating conditions, and down time.
* Prepare and maintain updated production schedules.
* Understand, support and help implement/maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), ERP, Operating Policies, and Daily's safety programs.
* Understand, support and help implement goals and objectives, and continuous improvement plans and activities.
* Perform other duties and assignments as directed by company's management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises employees under the direction of the Production Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training new employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is required, two (2) or more years related experience and/or training in supervisory roles. Prior experience in bacon production or further processed meats is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret in the English language correspondence, general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or
Government regulations. Ability to write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, consultants, and technicians, and direct production reports. Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.
DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES: Must work primarily in a supervisory capacity. Have the authority to remove employees from an eminent danger condition. Have informal contact daily with supervisor and other department supervisors. Changes involving programs, policies, and procedures require higher approval. Good organizational and writing skills necessary to track and document production reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the facility. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds, seldom lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee will be required to move about the facility, could be standing/walking on concrete floors up to 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. The employee is required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment varies from an office setting, production floor and outside climate conditions, depending on department assigned. Noise level may vary within areas of the plant. Must be able to tolerate cold (35 degrees or colder) and wet conditions.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as necessary. Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled by customer product demand.
