This position is responsible for all matters related to firearm design including; research and development, design, improvement, problem solving, testing, procedures, and documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determines which firearm designs can be produced with existing manufacturing or processing
    facilities and methods by analyzing product specifications and performance requirements to ensure
    successful product delivery.
  • Researches applicable technology related to processing techniques, materials, properties, and
    limitations which may affect feasibility, cost, and potential for production.
  • Confers with Research and Development team to clarify or resolve problems during the design and
    development process to ensure that design specifications meet existing engineering
  • Prepares product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics using SolidWorks for
    presentation to Engineering Management.
  • Develops complete product designs, CAD databases, SolidWorks models, and drawing packages
    in accordance with SureFire standards.
  • Responsible for DFM and production readiness analysis.
  • Assesses competitive products, ensuring new designs exceed current marketed products.
  • Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data using Microsoft Excel to establish
    performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or products.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs utilizing existing data from previous testing
    procedures in order to improve upon design testing methods within Engineering.
  • Interfaces with the Product Manager and other Engineers to ensure effective execution of
    engineering project timelines.
  • Manages Controlled Data in accordance with company PDM system policies and engineering best
  • Generates engineering change orders (ECO) per written company standards.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and
    external customers, as applicable. Report any incidents of harassment to your Supervisor,
    Manager or Human Resources Manager.
  • Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your Supervisor or Manager
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervision or management.


  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or up to 6 years relevant work experience.
  • Proven expertise in the development of firearms.
  • Firsthand experience bringing a magazine-fed semiauto pistol to a market-ready state.
  • Submit to annual COE registration to the State of California.
  • Working knowledge of materials, processing, and advanced coatings.
  • Ability to identify and diagnose common pistol malfunctions.
  • Experience with automatic pistols and small arms design and function.
  • Knowledge of small arms manufacturing methods.
