Mold Setup Technician
Position Summary
The Mold Setup Technician is responsible for preparing, assembling, maintaining, and changing molds used in SBM/EBM production equipment. This position ensures tooling is production-ready for scheduled setups while maintaining safety, efficiency, housekeeping, and GMP standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mold assembly, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.
- Complete mold changeovers and prepare all tooling/components required for scheduled setups.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on molds and tooling.
- Inspect tooling for wear, damage, or potential production issues.
- Identify required tooling using setup sheets and Engineering numbers.
- Perform extrusion head teardowns and reassembly.
- Sandblast extrusion molds and tooling components when required.
- Maintain inventory of mold spare parts and tooling components.
- Ship and receive molds, ensuring all required components are included and inspected.
- Train new employees on mold assembly and related setup techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and GMP-compliant work area.
- Follow daily direction from department leadership.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an SBM/EBM Mold Setup Technician.
- Must be capable of independently completing mold changeovers on at least three machine platforms.
- Experience with SBM/EBM molds, extrusion heads, and tooling components.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math/measuring skills.
- Ability to identify molds, tooling, and conversion components by Engineering number.
- Ability to follow setup sheets and written/verbal instructions.
- Must provide own tools and toolbox.
- Ability to train and assist other mold setup employees.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Must be capable of moving/sliding molds weighing over 50 lbs. onto carts, tables, and machine surfaces.
- Must be available for weekday and weekend overtime as required.
- Comfortable working in a hot and humid mold shop environment.
- Must wear required PPE, including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, gloves, and heat-resistant sleeves.
- Must follow all cGMP requirements, including hair/beard restraints and jewelry restrictions.
