Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Director, Engineering will lead all engineering activities in support of a major plant expansion. This leader will develop and execute short- and long-term plans across Manufacturing, Packaging, Process Controls, and Facility engineering. Responsibilities include staffing and technology planning, establishing performance metrics (safety, quality, service, cost), and driving continuous improvement to meet targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead manufacturing engineering operations to achieve and sustain best-in-class performance through strategic initiatives.
Develop and maintain consistent engineering procedures, standards, and policies across the site.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable external regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP and related food/dietary/pharmaceutical regulations).
Produce timely, accurate performance reporting and data analysis to support management decisions and project prioritization.
Collaborate with operations, commercial, and product teams to support current and new product introductions and ramp-ups.
Contribute to business continuity and contingency planning for manufacturing operations.
Identify, evaluate, and implement innovative processes, technologies, and systems to improve efficiency and product quality.
Lead capital investment planning and execution for the facility expansion.
Support multi-year site facilities planning and drive alignment with business objectives.
Coordinate environmental, health & safety (EHS) initiatives with site teams and ensure engineering alignment with safety programs.
Manage external contractors and consulting partners as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
PEOPLE & MANAGEMENT:
Directly oversee EHS and Engineering staff and associated contractors.
Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization through hiring, mentoring, performance management, and succession planning.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Pharmaceutical Engineering or equivalent.
15+ years of progressive manufacturing and engineering leadership experience.
10+ years experience in Food/Beverage/CPG
Experience with facility expansion-Greenfield/Brownfield
Strong organizational, motivational, and technical leadership skills, team builder
Experience overseeing Engineering teams 20+ Million in Capital projects
Proven problem-solving skills for short- and long-term operational challenges.
Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, formulations, materials, and equipment interactions.
Experience operating in regulated environments (food, dietary, nutritional, or pharmaceutical preferred).
Track record in process/equipment troubleshooting, optimization, facility upgrades, and expansion projects.
Experience developing and maintaining engineering systems, procedures, and documentation.
Excellent stakeholder management, customer service orientation, and results-driven focus.
Willingness to travel as needed.
PREFERRED:
Advanced engineering degree or MBA.
Lean / Six Sigma experience and practical application.
Experience establishing manufacturing systems and leading cultural/organizational change.
Prior responsibility for operations or manufacturing line oversight.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
On-site leadership role in a manufacturing environment with occasional travel; requires regular interaction with cross-functional teams and contractors.
